I haven't forgotten you!!

I swear I've had artblock for a year now. I haven't been able to produce any actual piece in longer than I can remember. Depressing.

But I have, at least, been sketching more recently. Which is always good. I have a few doodles I'd like to scan and share, but I'm back in San Francisco and without my scanner now. I think my roommate may have one (attached to that massive printer of hers...), and she might let me use it, but for now since I'm actually procrastinating and should be working on an essay, I'll leave it be for now. Maybe I'll work on that rough draft, and then I'll try and draw some more?

I'm feeling largely discouraged due to my continued inability to actually get into any sort of studio class. I was really hoping to take either painting or figure drawing (um, again) this semester, but all the studio classes I had even any slight interest in were filled up by the time I was able to register for any classes. Awesome. Next semester I'll be more daring and try to crash some stuff.

ANYWAY. I haven't given up on updating this place when possible, at least, and will hopefully have something to post here within a week. :)

Hey guys, guess what? I DIDN'T, IN FACT, COMPLETELY FORGET ABOUT THIS SKETCH-BLOG. I've just been lazy as hell and haven't scanned a damn thing.

HOWEVER: my Uncle Paul got himself a new scanner/printer thing, and so gave me his old scanner... which is only actually a year old! So now it's set up in my room, which means it's hooked up to the computer I use FAR more often these days. So! This should fight my laziness a little bit, because it's much more convenient.

So, to make up for lost time, here are MULTIPLE sketches for you. They're all doodles - that's all I do anymore. But some of them are fun. Practice pages and the like.

Here's hoping updates become at least semi-regular again.

An update of the previous sketch, with the arms, mid-section, and face fixed up a bit. Maybe it's better. Also, one of the wings is slightly fleshed out.

Hey, so I'm bad at the whole once-a-week concept, but don't I get points for updating um... every ten days or so? Well, it's better then nothing. I'll work on it.

Today's update is a doodle I did a couple nights ago that I've been playing with. The pose is kind of fun, but I'm posting it at this very rough sketch stage because I'd like some feedback. This is a kind of pose I'm constantly trying to draw, but never comes out right, and here's a prime example. Here, let me show you -

My most darling cover_my_eyes requested that I draw a base figure for her to use for her fashion-designing-purposes, and I was only too happy to oblige. I even overdid it and colored it, too. :B

The only requests Carlye set me were for the pose to not be completely from the front or to the side, but slightly turned, and for her hair to be short and curly. The rest was up to me, so long as it would work for her to design clothes on top of. I hope this is suitable, my dear, and I'll give you the actual tangible copy tomorrow! ♥

WOW, FAIL. I've been in a general rut lately and haven't drawn ANYTHING, but I really don't want to give up on this place just yet, so please excuse me as I post a doodle I did back in November or December. It's been kind of snowy tonight, and I thought this would be appropriate to post:

I'd like to upload some other sketches soon, so I can show off more than one drawing. (I really am a huge show-off.) Maybe tomorrow night, if I'm not too lazy after work, I'll share a couple sketches I did a while ago. Genuine new material will hopefully come about once this Anger image is wrapped up.

Let me know how it's looking, and any ideas on coloring. I'm actually probably going to bust out my ancient prismacolor markers to attempt to finish it up tonight, but I scanned this inked lineart in case I fuck it up and want to finish it digitally. We'll see what happens. :P

OK GUYS HERE'S AN ACTUAL DRAWING. This has something of a backstory to it, but I'm not feeling quite coherent enough to explain the whole thing now. I dunno, maybe it's self-explanitory. Just me visually exploring my anger issues. :P

Sketched this a couple times before I tried to flesh it out on bristol board. I like where it's going, but I'm not sure what to do with it next. I might play with ink on it and then mess with it digitally. This is, of course, after I finish drawing the bottom half.

Welcome to jankoraven's sketchblog! With any luck, this thing will work out as follows:

-Starting ASAP, I'll be posting one image once a week. I'm going to try and not worry too much about level of quality so long as it's SOMETHING and CONSISTENT. I'm starting this sketchblog in order to get myself to just work through the periods where no good drawings come. I need practice. So I gotta practice.

-As I say, quality won't be so massive an issue so long as I'm posting something NOT A STICK FIGURE. I'm not allowed to crap out and cheat completely.

-I want to encourage myself to try new things as often as possible. Draw things I haven't drawn before, work in new mediums, do shit with perspective, what have you!

-DO NOT USE THIS JOURNAL AS A MEANS OF ANYTHING BESIDES COMMENTING ON ARTWORK. PERSONAL COMMENTS ARE FOR MY PERSONAL JOURNAL.

First post deadline will be this coming Monday, 1/5/09. I think I'll normally shoot for Sunday-ish, but we'll see how convenient that ends up being. I'll set up something concrete once I know how my work schedule is gonna fit in with this.
